Patch 7.3 is on it’s way into World of Warcraft, and Blizzard has taken the time to update fans in some of the combat animations that will be altered for a number of casting classes.
In a similar fashion to the changes made to melee classes at the launch of Legion, this particular update will focus more on mages, priests, Restoration and Elemental shaman, plus other refinements made to casting animations. Further development on other classes will be coming in the future, bringing more enhancements to the game.
The WoW team have been aiming to revamp the game’s current combat animations for some time now, going on for over two years. To do so, they had to assemble a team that could come up with a prototype of what could be fixed, with the results being the new melee animations. Ultimately, they aim to create new melee moves that wouldn’t affect how the game is actually played.
An excerpt of the statement on the official website reads:
WoW has grown a lot over the last decade, and after we took stock of our combat pacing, it was clear that we needed to deliver a much tighter and more responsive experience for every button you press. Back in the days of simply chain-casting Frostbolt, it didn’t really matter how much time it took your character to go from precast to missile launch.
