WhiteKidney, a system admin for the “legacy” World of Warcraft server known as Elysium, has led a coup along with nine other admins to delete the project following unscrupulous actions from fellow admins, which has seen one member of staff taking around 2,000 Euros per month in PayPal donations.
Members Crogge and Shenna are at the forefront of the cause of this coup, with the former generating currency and selling it to gold sellers, whilst the latter has been skimming money from the project’s PayPal account. This has led to the formation of LightsHope, in the hopes that the Elysium Project will be re-launched under new management.
There has also been other staff members of Elysium that seem to have been involved in selling gold, leading to support team members being unable to gain access to the management server, with these members allegedly stepping down permanently.
Back in 2016, the original project Nostalrius was shut down by Blizzard, which would then relaunch as Elysium. It now appears that LightsHope will be the third rendition of the “vanilla” server for the MMORPG, with the following statement on the official site offering a briefing on the matter:
The Elysium Project as it exists today is no longer a viable project due to the systemic problem of lack of oversight on those with the most access to the servers. Due to failures to uphold the projects ideals and integrity, the Elysium Project is being dissolved and relaunched out of the control of those who have abused the trust of the staff, community, and legacy movement as a whole.
We will keep you posted as this story unfolds.
