Earlier this week, EA announced that the fourth edition of the Sims was going to be getting a “Cats & Dogs” expansion in November. Fans of the series rejoiced as our furry little friends from previous titles in the series would finally be able to join us in the most recent instalment of the life simulator. However, with the hype finally dying down and the ability to look over all the information with a critical eye, fans have started to notice a familiar feature from the Sims 3 making an appearance in the Cats & Dogs video footage.
That, my friends, sure does look like a Sims 3 colour wheel. Now, why is this a big deal? Well, the colour wheel was a fan-favourite feature in the third title in the series, which spanned everything from a sim’s hair colour to the patterning on a couch. It made objects and characters infinitely customizable. And with the colour wheel being re-implemented on pets, one can assume that it isn’t far off from being implemented on people too!
The screenshot above was taken from the Community video of the Gamescom footage but the colour wheel also makes a very brief appearance in the official trailer for the game. This truly is an exciting development from the series as the number 1 complaint from the community is how bare-bones the fourth game feels when compared with its predecessors. Bringing back the colour wheel is a huge leap forward for EA. Many people skipped out on this game all together because of the lack of customization in terms of colours and patterning. This colour wheel addition will almost certainly bring eyes back to the franchise.
