Dual Universe is an upcoming MMORPG that features sandbox civilization building, with a player-driven in-game economy, trade, warfare, politics, and more. Players have the ability to explore an entire galaxy, create various structures as well as their own spaceships, and even orbital stations. By working together with other players, you can even build your own empire.
This week’s Dual Universe DevDiary showed the new design of ship elements, single-player vehicles, a large spaceship, the Copy/Paste Tool, customizable widgets, a fuel indicator, Autonomy, a new baking rendering technique used for planets, the first version of the game installer, loading screens, and tooltips (which weren’t shown in the video). We also got more info about the game’s Alpha release.
The new design of the ship elements looks a bit darker, more realistic, and it has a more authentic sci-fi vibe.
The vehicles, and later the spaceship, shown in the video look quite impressive, and the developers stated that players will be able to make their own ships and vehicles however they want. The Dual Universe team is working to ensure that the UI used when constructing them will be as simple and effective as possible. There’s even a Copy/Paste Tool that will come in handy whenever the players need to just copy one part of a ship or even a building and put them somewhere else.
All the elements that you put on your ship will also display themselves, like the fuel indicator in the image above that shows how much fuel you have left. A new baking rendering technique for planets has been developed to render planets better from a distance. The very first version of the game installer, loading screens, and tooltips have also been developed, but these weren’t shown in the video. The game’s alpha was set for release in the first half of 2017, but now the team thinks they need more time. The new schedule for alpha is aiming for September, which is definitely better than releasing an unplayable alpha. Check out the full video below.
