Lineage 2 developers Netmarble has recognised the hard work and attention that has gone into Lineage 2 Revolution, and have therefore decided to reward their employees for their role in creating the MMORPG. The game released at the end of last year, reaching the top of the charts in both Google Play and the Apple App Store.
As a result of its success, the company paid employees a 100% bonus on their monthly salary, which was rewarded to all 3,000 employees and their affiliates. This success was too made possible by veteran MMORPG developer Sangmoo Park, who has worked on titles such as Genocide Force Albion and Prius Online and more over the course of 18 years. Also, the formation of several other companies including Netmarble subsidiaries Turnon Games, Nurien and Ribbon Games, who merged to launch Netmarble Neo.
Lineage 2 was an important turning point for Netmarble, making a successful transition for the MMORPG genre to the mobile platform. The implementation of the game to mobile has proven to be a financial success for Netmarble, who are enjoying the limelight for the first time since 2015’s Raven. Its number one ranking on Google Play has helped the company achieve daily sales of W3bn, which is six times that of the company’s top-ranked game sales.
According to Samsung securities analyst Yang Seung-woo, “The value of ‘Lineage 2 Revolution’ is worth about 2 trillion won. We expect Netmarble’s market capitalization to rise from 4 trillion won to 6 trillion won.” Netmarble have done a fantastic job with Lineage 2 Revolution, and their team deserve to be rewarded in kind.
