So, Kingdom Hearts III is coming, we know this for sure, and we know that it will be the end of the story that was started in the original game. It will feature new worlds (with Tangled being confirmed), new enemies, and more insane over-the-top combat than ever before. But, there are things (a lot of them) that we don’t know. For example, will any Final Fantasy and Square Enix characters show up? If so, then who?
This isn’t an odd question to ask if you know the franchise. The series is a combination of Final Fantasy characters, with a few other Square Enix characters thrown in for good measure, along with the classic characters and worlds from Disney. The worlds themselves are mainly Disney-based, but every once in a while, the Final Fantasy world arrives in grand style. The mainstays have been Leon (aka Squall from Final Fantasy VIII), Aerith, Yuffie and Tifa (Final Fantasy VII), and of course, Cloud Strife and Sephiroth (Final Fantasy VII). But, with Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance, we also got the cast from The World Ends With You. So, could someone new arrive this time around?
Well, the latest issue of Famitsu Weekly had a very special Kingdom Hearts 15th Anniversary special (as revealed by KH Insider), and in it, they compiled not only stats and figures about the game but revealed the results of a poll given to fans. In it, they asked fans what Final Fantasy character they’d like to see in the game. The most popular answer was Noctis from Final Fantasy XV. That’s not surprising given the popularity of the title. And fans have really resonated with Noctis and his crew, so it’s entirely possible given the development teams that the whole crew could show up.
Oh, and the runner-up? Lightning, who is also a fan-favorite and a very possible inclusion into Kingdom Hearts III. We’ll just have to wait and see if they arrive.
