You would think that after so many YouTube videos and threads and complaints about the Death Knight cards in the Hearthstone Arena, Blizzard would simply make these cards undraftable in that format, but they still aren’t doing anything about it. In fact, which is even more strange, there was an official response from them saying that they aren’t thinking about removing Death Knight cards from Arena.
If you’re a Hearthstone player that regularly plays the arena, then you know just how frustrating it can be to go against a Death Knight card, especially against a more powerful one like the Mage or the Hunter one. They affect the board, they give you a really powerful new Hero Power, and most of the time, they singlehandedly win you the game. Naturally, the players made tons and tons of threads and videos and whatnot complaining about the power level of these cards in this format, but when we finally got an official response from Blizzard, namely August Dean Ayala, a game designer, he said this:
“We don’t have any plan to take Death Knights out of arena. In most cases they are very powerful, but not any more powerful than other highly drafted legendary cards. The circumstance where people are drafting and playing powerful legendary cards from the set that just released is something we think is positive so long as they aren’t exceeding the power level of all other cards in existence.”
Now, we have one question for the people over at Blizzard. Which other legendary is as powerful as Frost Lich Jaina? In terms of the raw power of the card, absolutely nothing comes close, except maybe Deathwing, but he takes our entire hand out when he comes into play, and Frost Lich Jaina doesn’t.
Reddit user BPC3 summed up Frost Lich Jaina perfectly:
“LOL Frost Lich Jaina, not more powerful than other highly drafted legendary cards.
If you can’t kill the mage that turn, or your board position isn’t utterly overwhelming, you’re not going to win that game. The only reason this isn’t the single most obscene card in the game is because you might die before turn 9.”
The point is, we need Death Knights out of Hearthstone’s Arena mode, they are not fun to play against, and they have no real counters except tons of burn damage which if you can’t use right away you’re probably going to lose in the next few turns.
